Divorce cases are decided in family court. These include custody, parenting time, child support, spousal maintenance, and division of property and debt. The Judgment and Decree contains the court's final decision on all issues of the divorce case. The final papers are called the Judgment and Decree. ![]() ![]() The court "dissolves" or ends the marriage when the final papers are entered in the court's records. In Minnesota the process to divorce is called a dissolution of marriage.
